Course Overview

Specific business skills in English courses are short intensive courses for intermediate or upper-intermediate level students who need to make quick progress in specific areas.

They focus on skills such as socializing, giving presentations, negotiating, writing e-mails, telephoning, holding and attending meetings.

You will learn a variety of general business vocabulary and expressions as well as skills and strategies for different business scenarios. With these courses you will acquire the communication skills that you need for immediate use at work.

They are stand-alone courses or they can be combined with a General Everyday English course.

Socializing

  • English for Socializing is a short, intermediate level course, ideal if you need English to socialize in a professional context with colleagues or clients.
  • The course will help you to gain confidence in speaking in English in various social situations: making small talk, getting the right expressions for formal and informal situations.
  • It is ideal as a stand-alone short course, or as a complement to a General Everyday English Course.
  • Course Contents: Making contact, welcoming visitors, getting acquainted, entertaining a visitor, eating out, networking.

Telephoning

  • This a short, intermediate level course, ideal if you need to make effective telephone calls in English in a business context.
  • Telephoning in English can be difficult and sometimes stressful.
  • The course helps you to acquire confidence in speaking in English on the telephone.
  • Course Contents: Introducing yourself, exchanging & checking information, leaving voicemail messages, making arrangements, dealing with complaints, reaching agreements.

Presentations

  • English for Presentations is a short, intermediate level course, ideal if you need to give presentations in English at work.
  • It provides the language and techniques needed to help you gain confidence in presenting effectively in English.
  • It is ideal as a stand-alone short course, or as a complement to a General English Course.
  • Course Contents: Welcoming the audience, introducing the topic, body language, cultural cues, presentation tools, describing charts, strategies for a good conclusion, handling questions.

Negotiating

  • English for Negotiating is a short, intermediate level course, ideal if you need to negotiate in English at work.
  • You will learn appropriate language, expressions and effective techniques which are necessary to be a successful negotiator.
  • The course helps you to acquire confidence in speaking in English while negotiating.
  • Course Contents: Providing explanations, arranging a meeting, agreeing on an agenda, presenting proposals, countering offers, expressing impossibilities, asking pertinent questions, describing future situations.

Meetings

  • English for Meetings is a short, intermediate level course, ideal if you need to participate in meetings in English at work.
  • The course will provide you with techniques and appropriate language to help you participate in business meetings with confidence.
  • It is ideal as a stand-alone short course, or as a complement to a General Everyday English Course.
  • Course Contents: arranging & confirming a meeting, rescheduling, starting a meeting, stating objectives, reporting progress, explaining cause and effect, expressing opinions, responding to offers, ending a meeting.

Emails

  • English for E-mails is a short, intermediate level course, ideal if you need to write e-mails in a business context.
  • The course helps you to acquire the appropriate language and necessary techniques and strategies to help you write and reply quickly and efficiently to e-mails in English at work.
  • The course helps you to acquire confidence when communicating with colleagues, clients and your boss.
  • Course Contents: Introduction to email basics, formal & informal emails, enquiries, requiring action, follow ups, making & confirming arrangements.
